The Astro-F satellite mission (launch due in 2003) will comprise a 70-cm IR telescope which will undertake, pointed observations in K, L and M to depths of approximately 22, 21 and 20 respectively over 10X10 arcminute fields. We expect that observations using Astro-F/IRIS will be an important follow-up for confirmation of JHK candidates from this survey. Also, in the youngest star formation associations very young objects may have hot, circumstellar material and could be missed in JHK data alone. Astro-F/IRIS data will help to quantify possible missing populations.
